The agency’s Quality Leadership Forum (QLF) met Sept. 13-15, 2022, at NASA Headquarters to focus on issues of particular interest and significance that are faced by NASA Quality Engineering and Assurance practitioners assigned to aeronautics and space flight program and project teams. The focus was on processes executed internally by NASA. 

The Metrology and Calibration (MetCal) Working Group (MCWG) held its annual Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) April 25-28, 2022, at NASA Wallops Flight Facility. Agency MetCal representatives, calibration laboratory managers, metrologists and other experts from associated fields across all of NASA’s 10 field centers, and two component centers, met in-person and virtually at this hybrid event to discuss technical challenges, best practices and improvements related to the agency’s MetCal program. 

The Institutional Safety and Health Managers Council (ISHMC) brought together safety and health leaders from across the agency this April at Kennedy Space Center. The meeting marked the beginning of a new approach to safety and health management at the agency level. 

Representatives from NASA, the Department of the Air Force, National Transportation Safety Board, and Federal Aviation Administration form the Quad-Agency Working Group, which meets to build relationships between the organizations, allow them to learn how the others handle mishaps within their organizations and how they can work together on an investigation, should the need arise. The agencies also share best practices.

The Tri-Agency Working Group — made up of NASA (specifically the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance), the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board — exists so that each organization can learn how the others handle mishaps within their organizations and how they could all work together on an investigation, should the need arise. At a meeting this September, the group expanded to become the Quad-Agency Working Group with the official addition of the U.S. Air Force.

Fire protection engineers in NASA’s Fire Protection Working Group met at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, June 3-6 for its annual face-to-face meeting.

The Lifting Device and Equipment Committee (LDE) met in February to work on streamlining the next revision of the NASA Standard for LDE.

NASA’s Electrical Safety Working Group, chaired by Cheevon "Mi-Mi" Lau, held its annual face-to-face meeting at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on Feb. 11-13, 2014. Representatives from around the agency discussed electrical issues and shared advice with each other.

Software Assurance (SA) practitioners from around the agency came together Aug. 27-29 at the Ohio Aerospace Institute, just outside Glenn Research Center, for the annual SA Working Group face-to-face meeting.

NASA’s Fire Protection Working Group has been around for years, but it recently held its first formal meeting. From June 25-27, representatives from all 10 NASA centers met at Kennedy Space Center to discuss fire protection requirements.
