New ANSI Additive Manufacturing Standards Resources Available
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), in collaboration with America Makes, recently announced the release of two new resources designed to help industry, government agencies and researchers identify and navigate standards associated with Additive Manufacturing (AM).
The resources, developed through the Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC), include
- Additive Manufacturing Standards Database — A searchable online resource that allows users to identify existing and developing standards across various AM processes, materials, industry sectors and standards development organizations.
- September 2026 Gaps Progress Report — A report tracking progress toward addressing standardization gaps identified in the AMSC's Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing, Version 3.0, which identified 141 gaps in AM standards.
These resources support increased awareness of evolving industry standards for AM and provide valuable information for personnel involved in quality assurance, manufacturing, engineering, supplier oversight and the qualification and acceptance of products.
As AM technologies continue to expand across aerospace applications, the identification and application of appropriate technical standards becomes essential to supporting product quality, process consistency, reliability and mission assurance.
Using these resources can assist Quality professionals in identifying relevant standards, understanding areas where industry standardization is still evolving and supporting risk-informed quality assurance activities.
The NASA Office of the Chief Engineer maintains the NASA Technical Standards System (NTSS), which provides access to NASA technical standards and resources for locating many nationally and internationally recognized industry standards.
NASA personnel are encouraged to take advantage of this resource when researching applicable technical standards, evaluating quality assurance requirements, developing processes or supporting program and project activities. The OSMA Quality Assurance program encourages Quality professionals to stay informed about developments in industry standards and utilize available resources to support effective quality assurance practices and NASA mission success.
Access to specific industry standards may depend on NASA's available subscriptions and access permissions.
