Workmanship Training Credential Extension Risk Evaluator

This training credential extension tool was originally intended for use by manufacturing Operators, Inspectors, and Level B Instructors whose training credentials had already or would have soon expired due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the usefulness of this tool, it was decided that its use would be modified and continued post-pandemic. The current iteration of this tool is to provide temporary relief in the form of a training credential extension until the next available training course date, if necessary. This tool is available for use by Operators, Inspectors, and Level B Instructors taking NASA Workmanship Standards re-training courses from a NASA Level A or NASA SMA-Sponsored Level B instructor or facility. Please use the following process:

  1. Seek Re-training - Contact the NASA training provider in your area. Here are the NASA Workmanship Training Center POCs:

Prior to utilizing this tool, you must first contact the training center to register for the next available training course. If training is not available prior to the expiration of your training credentials, then the following information is needed to process a credential extension request

Last date of successfully completed training of desired course

Number of re-training cycles for desired course

Next available re-training date of desired course

  2. Submit Training Data - Enter your prior training information to the online extension form.

Based on the information provided in each field, the Workmanship Standards Program will evaluate and provide a documented risk-based recommendation for extension of training credentials up to the next available re-training date for the specific workmanship discipline. If extensions in multiple workmanship disciplines are needed, then this process will need to be repeated for those specific disciplines individually. Please allow up to 10 working days to receive your Workmanship Training Credential Extension Evaluation.

  3. Receive Extension Recommendation - A recommendation will be delivered to you and your supervisor’s emails for signature. An extension recommendation is not guaranteed.

    Please keep in mind:

    • The credential extension recommendation from the Workmanship Standards Program does not provide direct relief to any requirements but may be accepted by the affected NASA program or project at their discretion.

    • Any credential extension recommended by the NASA Workmanship Standards Program is only valid for work performed on NASA hardware, and may be applied to any personnel supporting NASA programs or projects.

    • Any credential extension does not affect certification status to any Industry Voluntary Consensus Standards training courses.

The Extension Evaluation should be kept with training records and/or your training certificate and should be available upon request to the NASA Workmanship Standards Program as well as any NASA program, project, or training facility that may request it.
