NPR 8735.1 Revision D, Exchange of Problem Data Using NASA Advisories and the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) went into effect July 29, 2018. Revision D is a complete rewrite in that the content was reorganized and simplified. The NASA GIDEP Working Group removed many redundancies that were in the previous versions, cutting the length of the policy by nearly half.

“I am very proud of this NPR,” said Bill Loewy, NASA’s GIDEP manager. “It’s a good, useable procedural requirement.”

Updates included

“Prior to this revision, centers decided how they did NASA Advisories and GIDEP Notices,” said Loewy. “For a long time, we didn’t want to change that because we were still dealing with shuttle and the aftermath. Now that we’re in between programs, this is a good time to make these changes.”

The updated policy requires center directors to implement NANADARTS in their center processes for the distributing, assessing and closed-loop reporting of NASA Advisories and GIDEP Notices. Center coordinators are now mandated to use NARS to enter, approve and release NASA Advisories and GIDEP Notices.
