NASA/SP-2014-612, NASA System Safety Handbook, Volume 2: System Safety Concepts, Guidelines, and Implementation Examples has now been released. It is the second of two volumes that collectively comprise the NASA System Safety Handbook. 

A multi-center Safety and Mission Assurance team, led by Ames Research Center, collaborated to provide oversight to the LADEE mission.

On Aug. 6, Dr. Homayoon Dezfuli, NASA System Safety fellow, presented the paper, “The Evolution of System Safety at NASA,” at the International System Safety Training Symposium 2014 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Ames Research Center's Mission Assurance System helps safety engineers assess and control risk both on earth and aboard the International Space Station.

The Office of Safety and Mission Assurance-funded software risk tool documentation and training project leveraged previous development and application work performed in conjunction with the former NASA Constellation program. The project resulted in multiple products, including the publication of the Context-Based Software Risk Model Application Guide.

NASA’s Office of Safety and Mission Assurance debuted the new “System Safety II” training course, which presents the new NASA System Safety framework, on Jan. 22-23, 2014.
