Changes to NPR 8000.4B, Agency Risk Management Procedural Requirements, went into effect on Dec. 6, 2017, thereby replacing NID 8000-108 and NPR 8000.4A.

NPR 8705.2, Human Rating Requirements for Space Systems was updated to reflect current agency policies. Revision C included changes to improve accountability throughout the Human-Rating certification process, clarification of the scope of human-systems integration analyses, clarifications regarding the failure tolerance requirement and more explicit involvement of the crew safety representatives.

The NASA Pressure Vessels and Systems Working Group developed updates to NASA-STD-8719.17, Requirements for Ground-Based Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems (PVS). With thousands of ground-based pressure systems across the agency storing substantial amounts of energy, it’s essential requirements for their safe and reliable operation remain current. 

Multi-disciplinary physics-of-failure testing and simulations conducted on Printed Circuit Boards at Goddard Space Flight Center recently resulted in an industry standard update, which will lead to cost savings not only for NASA but for the electronics industry in general.

NASA’s Office of Safety and Mission Assurance Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical (EEE) Parts program recently released a new standard to establish a consistent set of requirements for NASA EEE parts selection, management and control of space flight hardware and critical ground support equipment.

The NASA Workmanship Standards Program coordinated an administrative change to NASA-STD-8739.6A, Implementation Requirements for NASA Workmanship Standards. The primary reason for the change is to formally adopt IPC/WHMA-A-620B-S, Space Applications Electronic Hardware Addendum to IPC/WHMA-A-620B as an equivalent, alternative standard to NASA-STD-8739.4, Workmanship Standard for Crimping, Interconnecting Cables, Harnesses, and Wiring.  

An update to the NASA Procedural Requirements for Limiting Orbital Debris and Evaluating the Meteoroid and Orbital Debris Environment (NPR 8715.6B) was released on February 16, 2017. NPR 8715.6B replaces the previous version, NPR 8715.6A with Change 1, which was released on  May 25, 2012.

NASA’s Office of Safety and Mission Assurance recently released updates to Cradle, the agency’s Safety and Mission Assurance requirements database, to improve user experience.

Updates to NPR 8705.6, Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Audits, Reviews, and Assessments, took effect Jan. 9, 2017. These changes were made to update and streamline the audit process.
