SOYUZ FG (11A511U-FG) - Vehicle use: Soyuz, Progress, Satellite
Russian orbital launch vehicle. The Soyuz FG launch vehicle is derived from the Soviet R-7 intercontinental ballistic missile and produced by the Progress Rocket Space Center. It is comprised of four strap-on boosters (stage 1), a central core stage (stage 2), and an upper stage (stage 3). The Soyuz FG is an upgraded variant of the Soyuz U, with improved first and second stage engines. Since the retirement of the U.S. space shuttle, the Soyuz FG has provided the only human transport to the ISS.

Launch of Soyuz MS-10
During separation of the boosters, a sensor used to trigger the LOX valve on one of the boosters failed to function. This failure resulted in the booster striking the core causing a launch abort.
